Speech to the Independent Colleges and Universities

February 10th

I was asked to speak about “Democratizing Transformation” at the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) last week. I appeared in a general session and was introduced by a lifelong friend who has worked as a marketing strategy consultant for many institutions. He described himself as my Sherpa – there to help get me down from the mountain that I was about to climb.

Without a doubt one of the most interesting experiences of recent memory. The most interesting question from a college President “The things that you are discussing are viewed as “risky” on my campus. What do you recommend that we do?” Seeking to maintain a tone of respect – “if you find it valuable to come to a talk about transformation, haven’t you already seen risk in the status quo?”

  1. You mean I don’t have to pay for expert advice like this anymore?!

  2. Well, I *still* don’t see much evidence of “racial” factors playing a large roll in this Bubble. No smoking gun, or even a smoking water-pistol. A contributing factor, sure; but probably not a leading one.Pretty much all the quotes sound like what you’d typically find in a Bubble, not too different from e.g. the Internet Bubble.I really don’t think Mozilo or those hedge-fund managers yelling at the Fannie Mae people to accept riskier loans were motivated by winning some NAACP Image Award.

  3. Voluspas Chestnut & Vetiver är gudomligt. Det doftar november – som en försmak av julen men utan de där superjuliga dofterna, bara öppenspis och portvin och stickad filt. Ah…

Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what’s for lunch. And it better be free, too. Yup, those good old days when everybody was on the same sheet of music (if they ever existed) don’t, well, exist anymore. A shame, actually. But it’s the , I guess.

  5. Finding this post. It’s just a big piece of luck for me.
